CHANHASSEN, Minn. — The Carver County Attorney's office has determined two sheriff's department officers who shot a 16-year-old boy outside his home in the western Twin Cities suburb of Chanhassen this past summer acted in self-defense. In the incident on July 13, Archer Amorosi, who according to a 34-page report on the incident had been suffering from mental illness, was shot multiple times after he charged one of the officers with a hatchet in one hand and what deputies thought was a handgun in the other hand.
STURGIS, S.D. -- Attendance was the second highest in the past 10 years at the 2018 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August in the Black Hills of South Dakota, according to official numbers released Thursday, Oct. 11. The City of Sturgis in reporting the numbers said there were 495,000 visitors at the 10-day event with a total economic impact to the state of $786 million. More than $580,000 was raised at various events for local nonprofit organizations.

MILBANK, S.D. — A 16-year-old Milbank teenager died Sunday morning, Oct. 7, when he fell off the hood of a moving vehicle about five miles southeast of Milbank in far northeast South Dakota. The boy was riding on the hood of a 2001 Dodge Intrepid which was going westbound about 10:30 a.m. when his foot got caught on the front bumper and he was dragged under the vehicle, said the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
ST. PAUL -- Minnesotans now have a third choice when obtaining their driver’s license or identification card for identifying their gender. Instead of male or female, there is also now an “X” box to check in an apparent move to establish a gender-neutral ID. The option became available on Monday, Oct. 1, when the state also began offering the new Real ID.
ST. ROSA, Minn. -- Two adult black Labradors were found shot to death in a wildlife management area in Stearns County in east-central Minnesota over the weekend. After an investigation by the county sheriff’s department, the skeletal remains of two other dogs and a cat were also found in the same area near the town of St. Rosa or about 30 miles northwest of St. Cloud near the Todd County line.
MINNEAPOLIS — Applications are being accepted for four positions on the University of Minnesota Board of Regents next year. The positions to be filled include one student at-large position, two at-large positions, and one from the Fifth Congressional district position. The application deadline is Nov. 30.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- A 23-year-old Sioux Falls woman is on the run after being accused of shooting a man in a vehicle in the city and then dumping his body north of town along a rural road. Kelsey Rachel Roubideaux is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached, said authorities. She is described as 5-foot-4, 180 pounds with tattoos on her neck and face. She is wanted on warrant for first degree manslaughter.
ST. PAUL — The president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., is coming to Minnesota next week. He will be joined by Kimberly Guilfoyle, chair of the pro-Trump political action group America First, to headline a fundraiser for the state’s Republican Party. Republican Party Chair Jennifer Carnahan said the visit shows how important the White House thinks Minnesota is for the midterm elections.
