Ridgewater eases past St. Cloud Technical

WILLMAR — The Ridgewater volleyball team fired on all cylinders from start to finish in a 3-0 win against St. Cloud Technical on Wednesday at Ridgewater College.

The Warriors won 25-18, 25-18, 25-18.

Ridgewater maintained control of the matchup from the starting whistle and used the best of both setters, Staci Banks and Sarah Sulflow, who finished with 20 and 11 set assists, respectively.

Morgan Gronli had a team-best 12 kills and added 16 digs while teammate Lexi Vos tallied 11 kills and three solo blocks. Baylee Larsen also finished with three solo blocks and Jessica Lemke added a team-best 24 digs.

The Warriors will hit the road next Tuesday for the team's final non-conference match of the regular season with a battle against the St. Thomas junior varsity, before wrapping up the conference season with three home matches in four days.

reach 6A semis

Singles players from Minnewaska, Montevideo, Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd and Osakis moved into the semifinals of the Section 6A individual tournament on Wednesday in Fargo.

Minnewaska's Danielle Thorfinnson defeated MACCRAY's Allison Shubert and Morris/Chokio-Alberta's Lea Asmus to earn a semifinals spot.

Montevideo's Kori Douglas defeated Yellow Medicine East's Macie Sik and Osakis' Alexa Lien to reach the semifinals. Thorfinnson and Douglas play their semifinals match on Oct. 16.

LQPV/DB's Anna Hacker defeated Morris/CA's Katelyn Wehking and YME's Whitney Tennis to reach the semis. Hacker will play Osakis' Tia Dykema in the other section semi on Oct. 16.

Granite Invitational

The Willmar boys and girls teams dominated the Granite Invitational at the Boulder Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday in St. Cloud.

The Willmar girls claimed the top seven spots for a perfect 15 score. Amel Dayib won in 18:57.35.

The Willmar boys placed three runners in the top five and all six Cardinals placed in the top 12. Fuad Bashir placed third in 16:53.62.
