George E. "Elwood" Grussing

George "Elwood" Grussing, 78, of Willmar, died Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. His funeral will be at 11:00 am on, Monday, November 12th at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-5 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at Vinje on Monday.

George was born May 5, 1940, in Clara City, the son of George D. and Tetkea (Tebben) Grussing. He was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and graduated from Clara City High School in 1958. He continued his education at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis in automotive technology. After graduating he worked for Minneapolis Moline in the test lab.

On November 2, 1963, he was united in marriage to Sandra Schackman at St. John's Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. After moving to Willmar, George taught at Willmar Area Vo-Tech for 33 years, retiring in the late 1990's.

He loved nature and being outdoors, whether hunting deer, pheasants, or at the cabin near Park Rapids. He cherished being with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a man who would always help others, had a positive attitude, could fix anything and was good natured and ready with a smile.

Surviving are his wife, Sandy; children: Geri Thostenson of Inver Grove Heights; Gina Grussing of Spicer and Jay (and Cindy) Grussing of Salem, OR; three grandchildren: Tyler, Matthew and Katie Thostenson; and sisters, Audrey Anderson and Kay Grussing.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
