June 30, 2018 story: Somali Independence Day festival is Sunday in Willmar

Somali Independence Day will be celebrated from 1 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Litchfield Avenue and Fifth Street in downtown Willmar.

A portion of Litchfield Avenue will be closed for the family friendly street festival, and all are invited for music, food and games.

The event is sponsored by the Iftiin Somali Youth Center.

The Somali Museum of Minnesota will have an exhibit at the festival. A singer from Minneapolis will perform, and dancers from Iftiin will perform a variety of Somali cultural dances. There will a bouncy castle and face painting for kids.

Food will be for sale, and Somali shops in the downtown area will be open.
